Pharmacokinetics
Melanotan II is an engineered, synthetic analog of the alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone. Consequently, it has a similar mechanism of action.[2] Throughout the body, there are receptors known as melanocortin receptors. When activated, these receptors send clinical signals throughout the body, leading to the desirable and potential effects melanotan II may provide. Melanotan II interacts with these receptors indiscriminately.[1]
Scientific Studies
Melanotan II and its analogs have been studied since the early 1960s. Initial tests yielded some results, many indicating a potential for skin enhancement and effectively sun free tans.[1] Melanotan II also appeared to be a viable option for treating male and female dysfunction. One researcher injected himself with an unintentionally high dose, and would proceed to experience an 8 hour erection.[3]
